ഒരു കമാൻഡിങ് ഓഫീസർ ഉൾപ്പെടെ 20 ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികരാണ് ജൂൺ 15 ന് ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികരും ചൈനീസ് സൈനികരും തമ്മിൽ ലഡാഖിലെ ഗൽവാൻ താഴ്‌വരയിൽ ഉണ്ടായ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലിൽ വീരമൃത്യു വരിച്ചത്.അഞ്ചു പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ഉണ്ടായ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലാണിത്.
ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലിലേക്ക് നയിച്ച സന്ദർഭങ്ങളും സംഘർഷത്തിന്റെ നൽവഴിയും ഇങ്ങനെ:
ജൂൺ 6 ന് ഇരുരാജ്യങ്ങളും തമ്മിൽ നടന്ന Lt. ജനറൽ ലെവൽ ചർച്ചകൾക്കൊടുവിൽ ഘട്ടം ഘട്ടമായി സംഘർഷപ്രദേശത്ത് നിന്നും പിൻവാങ്ങാനുള്ള തീരുമാനത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ അതിനുശേഷം ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർ തിരിച്ചുവരികയും ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭാഗത്ത്‌ ക്യാമ്പ് നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികർ വന്ന് ക്യാമ്പ് പൊളിച്ചുമാറ്റുകയും, തുടർന്നുണ്ടായ ചെറിയ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലിൽ ഇരുവശത്തുമുള്ള ഒരുപാട് പേർക്ക് പരിക്കേൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
എന്നാൽ ആഴ്ച്ചയുടെ അവസാനത്തോടെ, നേരത്തെ തിരിച്ചു പോയ ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർ കൂടുതൽ ആൾബലവുമായി തിരിച്ചു വന്നു. ജൂൺ 14 ന് ചിലയിടങ്ങളിൽ പരസ്പരം കല്ലേറും ഉണ്ടായി.
ജൂൺ 15 വൈകുന്നേരം ഗൽവാൻ നദിയോട് ചേർന്ന് നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു മലമുകളിൽ വെച്ച് രണ്ട് പക്ഷത്തുള്ള സൈനികരും തമ്മിൽ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുണ്ടായി. സംഘർഷം പെട്ടെന്നുതന്നെ വലിയ തോതിൽ വർധിക്കുകയും, ചില ഇന്ത്യൻ പട്ടാളക്കാർ നദിയിലേക്ക് വീഴുകയും ചെയ്തു.
PLA സൈനികർ പിൻവാങ്ങാനുള്ള സന്നദ്ധത കാണിക്കാഞ്ഞതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് 16 ബീഹാർ റെജിമെന്റിലെ colonel സന്തോഷ്‌ ബാബുവിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഒരു സംഘം ചൈനീസ് സൈനികരുമായി ചർച്ച ചെയ്യാനായി എത്തി. എന്നാൽ ചൈനക്കാർ പിൻവാങ്ങാൻ തയാറായില്ല, എന്നു മാത്രമല്ല ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികരെ പാറക്കല്ലുകളും, ആണി തറച്ച വടികളും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ആക്രമിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. സംഘർഷത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ പോലും തോക്കുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചില്ല എന്നാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ സേന വ്യക്തമാക്കിയത്.
ചൈനക്കാരുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ ആക്രമണത്തിൽ കമാൻഡിംഗ് ഓഫീസർക്ക് ഗുരുതരമായി പരുക്കേറ്റു. ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈന്യം ഇദ്ദേഹത്തെയും പരുക്കേറ്റ മറ്റൊരു ഹവിൽദാറെയും കൊണ്ട് അപ്പോൾ തിരിച്ചു പോയി. പരുക്കേറ്റ് കിടന്ന മറ്റുള്ള സൈനികരെ ചൈനീസ് സേന കസ്റ്റഡിയിൽ എടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
40 മിനിറ്റിനു ശേഷം ഒരു മേജറിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ അതേ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഗ്രൂപ് വീണ്ടും ക്യാമ്പ് പൊളിച്ചുനീക്കാൻ എത്തി. കാര്യങ്ങൾ വീണ്ടും സംഘർഷാവസ്ഥയിൽ എത്തി.
ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികർ ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർക്ക് നേരെ ആക്രമണം അഴിച്ചുവിടുകയാണ് പിന്നീടുണ്ടായത്. ഏകദേശം 55-56 ചൈനക്കാർക്ക് സാരമായ പരിക്കേറ്റു. ഒരുപാട് പേർക്ക് ജീവഹാനി സംഭവിക്കാവുന്ന പരിക്ക് ഉണ്ടായി. എത്രയെന്ന് തിട്ടപ്പെടുത്താൻ പറ്റില്ലെങ്കിലും ചില ചൈനീസ് പട്ടാളക്കാർക്ക് മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ശാരീരികമായ സംഘട്ടനം രാതിവരെ തുടർന്നു. കല്ലുകളും, കമ്പി ചുറ്റിയ വടികളും ഉപയോഗിച്ചതുകാരണം ഒരുപാട് പേർക്ക് തലയിൽ പരിക്കേൽക്കുകയുണ്ടായി, സംഘട്ടനം മൂന്ന് മണിക്കൂറോളം നീണ്ടുനിന്നു.
പാതിരാത്രിക്ക് ശേഷം സംഘട്ടനം അവസാനിച്ചു. നദിയിൽ നിന്ന് ചിലരുടെ പേരുടെ ശരീരങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ചു. പരിക്കേറ്റ ചിലർ രാവിലെയോടെ മരണത്തിന് കീഴടങ്ങി.
വളരെ അവ്യക്തമായി മാർക് ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്ന LAC ബിജിങ്ങോ ഡെൽഹിയോ ഒരു സ്ഥിരമായ അതിർത്തിയായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നില്ല. 1962 ലെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്റെ അവസാനം പിടിച്ചെടുത്ത പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ചൈന പിൻവാങ്ങിയ ശേഷം വേർതിരിച്ച പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു ഏകദേശ ധാരണയാണിത്.
ലഡാഖ് മേഖലയിലെ സംഘർഷം വലിയ തോതിൽ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ചലനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന ഒന്നായി മാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു. ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചില വിവരങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭരണകൂടം പുറത്തുവിടുകയും ഉണ്ടായി. എന്നാൽ ചില മാധ്യമങ്ങളും വിരമിച്ച സൈനിക ഓഫീസർമാരും ഉൾപ്പെടെ ചിലർ ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രദേശത്തു 10000 ഓളം ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർ കടന്നു കയറി എന്നു പറയുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ സത്യാവസ്ഥ ഇത്രയും പേടിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതല്ല. എന്നാൽ നിലവിലെ status quo പലയിടങ്ങളിലും ലംഘിക്കപ്പെടുയും പിന്നീട് സംഘർഷം ഉണ്ടാകാനും സാധ്യത കാണുന്നുണ്ട്‌.
ഇന്ത്യ ചൈന സംഘർഷം നടക്കുന്ന ഗൽവാൻ താഴ്‌വരയിൽ രണ്ട് കൂട്ടരും വലിയതോതിൽ സൈന്യത്തെ വിന്യസിസിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. LAC യിൽ നിന്ന് 500 മീറ്റർ മാറിയാണ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത സൈന്യ വിന്യാസം. 3 കിലോമീറ്റർ മാറിയാണ് ചൈനയുടെ പ്രധാന ക്യാമ്പ് എങ്കിലും LAC യിൽ ഒരു ചെറിയ പോസ്റ്റ് അവർ പണിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്
ജൂൺ 16 ലെ ഉപഗ്രഹ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഏറ്റവും മുന്നിലുള്ള പോസ്റ്റുകൾ നീക്കം ചെയ്തതായും, ചൈനയുടെ പോസ്റ്റുകൾ ഭാഗികമായി നീക്കം ചെയ്തതായും കാണാം. ചൈനയുടെ ഭാഗത്ത്‌ ഏതാണ്ട് നൂറോളം ട്രക്കുകളും ഉള്ളതായി കാണാം

ഈ ട്രക്കുകൾ നിലവിലുള്ള ചൈനീസ് വിന്യാസങ്ങൾ പൊളിച്ചുനീക്കാൻ സഹായിക്കാനാണോ അതോ സംഘർഷത്തിന്റെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ കൂടുതൽ ചൈനീസ് സേനയെ LAC യിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ സഹായിക്കാനാണോ എന്ന് വ്യക്തമല്ല.
താഴ്‌വവരയുടെ ഉപഗ്രഹചിത്രങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് പുതിയതായി പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച ദൗലത് ബേഗ് ഓൾഡിയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന DS-DBO റോഡിലെ എല്ലാ ഗതാഗതനീക്കങ്ങളും ചൈനീസ് സേനയ്ക്ക് സുഗമമായി വീക്ഷിക്കാൻ പറ്റും.
‘എന്നാൽ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിൽ ഉള്ള പ്രദേശത്ത് ചൈന സേനാവിന്യാസം നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നതിന് ഇതുവരെ ഒരു തെളിവും ഇല്ല.’ 40 പട്ടാളക്കാരും വെറും 6 ടെന്റുകളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത ചൈനീസ് വിന്യാസം പൊളിച്ചുനീക്കിയതായും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ “Hot springs” area യിൽ ഒരു മൺറോഡിലൂടെയും ചെറിയ പട്രോളിങ് റൂട്ടിലൂടെയും ചൈന പലതവണ ഇന്ത്യൻ അതിർത്തി ലംഘിച്ചു എന്നതിന് തെളിവുണ്ട്. LAC ക്ക് നൂറ് മീറ്ററോളം അപ്പുറത്താണ് ഇവ കൂടിച്ചേരുന്നത്.
ഈ കടന്നുകയറ്റങ്ങളെ പ്രതിരോധിക്കാനും LAC യിലെ പ്രസ്തുത മേഖലയെ വീക്ഷിക്കാനും ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈന്യം ഒരു സ്ഥിര സൈനിക ക്യാമ്പ് നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ ഒരുങ്ങി (Image 6). സൈനികർ ഉപകരണങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഇത് നിർമിക്കുന്ന ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ മേയ് 21 ലെ ഉപഗ്രഹ ചിത്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് കാണാൻ കഴിയും.
ഈ പോസ്റ്റുകൾ ഇതിനു മുൻപേ LAC യുടെ സമീപത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത വിന്യാസങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും 8 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം ↛ മുന്നോട്ടാണ്.
പഗോങ് സോ ഏരിയയിൽ ആണ് ഇതുവരെ വിന്യാസങ്ങൾ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നതും, പക്ഷെ ഇത്തരത്തിൽ ഇരു രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെയും തർക്കഭൂമിയിൽ നിൽക്കുന്നതുമായ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ ചൈന കൂടുതൽ ശക്തിയോടെ അവരുടെ സൈന്യത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം തെളിയിക്കുന്നത്. “ഫിംഗർ 2” നും “ഫിംഗർ 8” നും ഇടയിൽ ഉള്ള സ്ഥലം ഇന്ത്യയും ചൈനയും തമ്മിൽ തർക്കത്തിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശമാണ്.
ഈ തർക്കഭൂമിയിൽ ഒരുപാടിടത്ത് ഇന്ത്യ നിലയുറപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ ചൈന ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് പട്രോളിങ് മാത്രമാണ് സാധാരണയായി നടത്തിവന്നിരുത്, മിക്കപ്പോഴും “ഫിംഗർ 4” വരെ. ഇവിടെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈനികരും ചൈനീസ് സൈനികരും തമ്മിൽ ഒരു സംഘർഷം 2017ൽ ഉണ്ടായത്.
എന്നാൽ മേയ് തുടക്കത്തോടെ ഈ തർക്കഭൂമിയിൽ ചൈന ഒരുപാട് സൈനിക പോസ്റ്റുകൾ നിർമിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി (ഫിംഗർ 4, 5 എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ഇടയിൽ പ്രധാനമായും). നൂറുകണക്കിന് സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലാണ് ഈ ചെറിയ സമയത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ചൈന സൈനിക പോസ്റ്റുകൾ പണിഞ്ഞത്.
ഉദാഹരണത്തിന്, 2017 ൽ സംഘർഷം നടന്ന തീരപ്രദേശം ഇന്ന് വലിയ തോതിൽ ചൈനീസ് സാന്നിധ്യമുള്ള ഒരു മേഖലയാണ് (Image 10), കിടങ്ങുകളോട് കൂടിയ പത്തോളം നിർമിതികളും, ഉപദ്വീപിനോട് ചേർന്ന് ബോട്ടുകളുമായി.
ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈന്യവും ചൈനീസ് സൈന്യവും പട്രോളിങ് നടത്തുന്ന മേഖലകൾ വേർതിരിക്കുന്ന ഫിംഗർ 4 ലെ താഴ്‌വരയുടെ മുകളിലും ഏതാണ്ട് 19-ഓളം സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ ചൈന കൈയ്യേറിയിട്ടുണ്ട് (Image 11).
എന്നാൽ ഫിംഗർ 4 മുതൽ ഫിംഗർ 8 വരെയുള്ള പ്രദേശം ഇന്ത്യ തങ്ങളുടേതാണ് എന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, 1999 ൽ ചൈന ഇവിടെ ഒരു റോഡിന്റെ നിർമാണം തുടങ്ങുകയും, 2004 ഓടെ പൂർണമായി ടാറിട്ട് പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് ഈ ഭാഗത്ത്‌ സാനിധ്യമില്ല.
ഏതാണ്ട് 5 കിലോമീറ്റർ ഉള്ളിലേക്ക് ഈ നിർമ്മിതികൾ പോകുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്ന/അവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന മേഖലയിലേക്കും പിൽബോക്‌സ് ഔട്ട്‌പോസ്റ്റുകളും പ്രതിരോധ പോസ്റ്റുകളും നിർമിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. (Image 12)
പങ്ഗോങ് സോയിൽ ഫിംഗർ 4 ന് 500 മീറ്റർ അടുത്ത് മലമുകളിൽ ഇന്ത്യയും ക്യാമ്പ് നിർമിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇതിന്റെ 500 മീറ്റർ മാറി ഒരു ചൈനീസ് ക്യാമ്പും ഉണ്ട്. സ്ഥിതി കൂടുതൽ സംഘർഷഭരിതമാവാനുള്ള സാധ്യത ഇത് വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
പിറകിലേക്ക് പോയാൽ, തടാകത്തിലേക്ക് നീളുന്ന alluvial സമതലങ്ങളിൽ കിടങ്ങുകളോട് കൂടിയ 250-ഓളം നിർമ്മിതികൾ കാണാൻ കഴിയും (Image 13-16). കൂടുതൽ പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടും ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
5000 മുതൽ 10000 വരെ വരുന്ന ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർ “ഇന്ത്യൻ അതിർത്തി” ലംഘിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ കടന്നു കയറി എന്ന വാർത്തകൾ ഈ നിർമ്മിതികളെ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചതായിരിക്കണം. എന്നാൽ ചൈനയുടെ ഈ സൈനിക വിന്യാസങ്ങൾ LAC യിൽ തർക്കത്തിലുള്ള 30 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം വരുന്ന പ്രദേശത്താണ്.
തർക്കത്തിൽ ഉള്ള പങ്ഗോങ് സോയിലെ ഭൂമിയിൽ Status quo യുടെ ലംഘനമാണ് വലിയ രീതിയിൽ ചൈന നടത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്.
ചുരുക്കത്തിൽ രണ്ട് കൂട്ടരും പട്രോളിങ് മാത്രം നടത്തിയിരുന്ന തർക്കഭൂമിയായ പങ്ഗോങ് സോയിൽ സമാധാനപരമായ Status quo ലംഘിച്ച് ചൈന നിർമ്മിതികൾ ഉയർത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഫിംഗർ 8 വരെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കാഴ്‌ചപ്പാടിൽ LAC . എന്നാൽ ചൈന ഫിംഗർ 4 വരെ പട്രോളിങ് നടത്തും, ഇന്ത്യ അതിനപ്പുറത്ത് പോവുകയും ചെയ്യാറില്ല. ഇതിന്റെ ഇടയിൽ വരുന്ന തർക്ക ഭൂമിയിലാണ് ചൈന അനധികൃതമായി Status quo ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
സംഘർഷത്തെയും അതിലേക്ക് നയിച്ച സംഭവങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ച് പ്രധാന മന്ത്രിയും പ്രസ്താവന പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു. LAC കടന്ന് ഇന്ത്യൻ നിയന്ത്രിത പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് കടക്കാൻ ആരെയും അനുവദിക്കില്ല എന്നും, അതിന് മുതിർന്ന ചില ചൈനീസ് സൈനികർക്ക് തക്ക മറുപടി കൊടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ആരും ഇന്ത്യൻ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലുള്ള മേഖലയിൽ കടന്നുകയറിയിട്ടില്ല എന്നും പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി വ്യകതമാക്കി.
